Eureka Springs = Joy!

As the dust settles on one of the most intense elections in recent memory, Americans on both sides of the aisle are feeling a mixture of exhaustion, relief, disappointment, and, for some, hope. We’ve seen a record turnout, with citizens from every corner of the country casting their votes with passion and conviction. In the end, democracy did what democracy does — it allowed the people to speak. And while the results might not reflect every American’s vision, they represent the voice of our nation.

It’s only natural to feel the waves of emotion that follow an election. For some, the outcome brings elation, but for many others, a sense of frustration or even helplessness. Yet, amid the reactions and reflections, there is a simple truth that often gets overlooked: there is far more power in what we can control than in the broader, uncontrollable outcomes. So, while we acknowledge the significance of the election results, we are also reminded that our daily actions hold the most profound impact on our lives and the lives of those around us.

Consider this: every one of us woke up this morning with the same power we had yesterday to shape our own lives, our communities, and our futures. For those of us in places like Eureka Springs, Arkansas, this rings especially true. Our small town, nestled in the Ozarks, has long understood the strength that comes from community and the resolve to stand together. While the decisions from across our nation have their place, the essence of Eureka has always been rooted in local action, neighborly compassion, and a spirit of individuality that can’t be shaken by any election.

Here in Eureka Springs, we don’t wait for the national tide to bring change — we roll up our sleeves, patch up the walls of a local art gallery, raise funds for the historic preservation of our landmarks, and take care of each other. This is where our focus belongs. Imagine a nation that mirrors our beloved Eureka, where people don’t dwell on decisions they cannot change but instead take every opportunity to uplift those around them, honoring the unique beauty of every person and every town across this country.

This election has underscored just how divided we are, but it has also highlighted something important: there is unity in the desire for change, progress, and prosperity.

People across the country care deeply about their neighbors, their schools, their streets, and their workplaces. This is where our focus should be. Imagine if every community were filled with individuals invested not in political affiliations but in bettering their immediate surroundings. Imagine a nation of citizens who, regardless of election outcomes, never stop pushing for improvement.

So, where do we go from here? We start with empathy. Let us take the time to listen, even to those whose votes reflect values different from our own. Empathy is our greatest bridge — it is what transforms political conversations into meaningful connections and helps us realize that, beneath the banners and slogans, we are more alike than we are different.

We can also act. Volunteer for a cause close to your heart. Take time to advocate for local policies that make a tangible difference in your area. Support small businesses, mentor the next generation, reach out to a neighbor. These may seem like small actions, but they are monumental in shaping the character of our nation.

My adorable nephew Joe also turned 21 this month, and that's quite important to me! HB2U Joe!

Consider the thriving LGBTQIA+ communities within small towns and cities, such as Eureka Springs, Arkansas — a town where inclusivity is woven into the fabric of its unique character. Eureka Springs, with its annual diversity celebrations and long-standing welcoming atmosphere, offers a blueprint. It shows that, despite the political landscape, communities can choose empathy, can build support systems, and can set examples for the rest of the nation to follow.

As the dust from this election settles, it’s clear that change will continue, driven by those who show up day in and day out, advocating for fairness, acceptance, and equality. The road forward will undoubtedly have its challenges, but it’s a road this community knows well. And for every step taken in protest, every voice raised in solidarity, and every ally who joins the journey, we inch closer to a world where every person is free to live authentically.

Let’s not lose sight of what truly matters. Let’s let go of what we can’t control, and invest ourselves in what we can. Because, in the end, it isn’t the outcome of an election that determines our strength as a nation — it’s our shared commitment to building something better, together.

This is where the real work begins, and the story — our story — is far from over. And so, as this chapter closes, another begins. And if you think the story has reached its end, think again. The next page is ours to write. The question now is simple: what will we do with it?❤️
