Halloweentown is Back From the Dead

Eureka Springs has a long and fascinating past, complete with ghost stories and legends.

Here are my four top picks for events/activities to experience as Eureka Springs brings Halloweentown back from the dead this October 2024.

1. The Zombie Crawl

Join the horde or fear the horde, the choice is all yours.

Follow the official site of this event and you will come upon both options and what you need to do to participate in The Zombie Crawl 2024.

Also, on this site, there is a link to a special page called ZOMBIE 101 that explains how to look and act like a zombie. Note: No death required.

Pets are allowed at the Zombie Crawl, but they must be on a leash.

Weapons of any kind are not allowed.

Eureka Springs has an immense selection of different lodging choices, but they fill up fast (VERY fast) for October - so do not miss out. There are several historic inns and hotels along the parade route, including the New Orleans Hotel, Palace Hotel, Basin Park Hotel, and All Seasons Inn. When booking, ask about off-street parking and special balcony viewing options for the Zombie Crawl.  Cottages and B&B's near the Public Library (where the parade starts) are also a good choice.

Whether or not you are staying downtown, ask your lodging host where the nearest trolley stop is located. Riding the trolley is highly recommended during your visit as parking can often be a challenge with so many visiting our small town.

2. Paranormal Experiments at The Intrigue Theater

The Intrigue Theater in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, offers magic, illusion and mystique. The founders of Intrigue Theater are Sean-Paul and Juliana Fay, and they have been developing paranormal experiments for years.

Sean-Paul and Juliana Fay have maintained an inventive edge, creating pieces that are uniquely their own. They've worked alongside tigers; they've trained birds and a monkey; they're quick-change experts, ballroom dancers, and escape artists. They've performed levitation on water and developed signature comedy sketches.

Audience members are most often impressed with how they showcase the potential of the human mind. They perform feats of precognition, telekinesis, and telepathy. This is an experience not to be missed. Plan ahead and get your tickets soon because October is a very busy month in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

3. America's Most Haunted Hotel

The crown jewel of spooky experiences in Eureka Springs has to be the Crescent Hotel.

Friends, this place will forever creep me out. I won't get into why, but I will explain this . . . when I went to The Crescent take "selfies" to use for a blog I was writing about the place, this was the first one that came out.

My first creepie selfie at The Crescent Hotel

Following this, a blurry, whited-out selfie happened just after I decided to change hands to snap it.

My second creepy selfie at The Crescent Hotel

As someone who uses his cell phone camera nearly every day and takes color picture after color picture of people and places, I think these random black and white pics are very creepy. That last one literally washed out the entire hotel behind me as if some entity or spirit was not OK with my taking a photo of the place.

This property has been haunted by spirits since the days when The Crescent was a hospital and (charlatan doctor) Norman Baker admitted people for care under the false claims that he would cure them from cancer. One by one, patients checked in and never checked out.

With a past like that, it is no wonder the energy at the Crescent Hotel does wild things to technology. My creepy selfies are proof. I mean, my camera setting went from color to black and white, y'all, and back again to color after I left the property ... Yep, chills!

A visit to this historic, haunted hotel is a must for your October visit to Eureka Springs. You will not be disappointed. No where else on earth will you experience such rampant, chilling, paranormal activity. Trust me, it is all around you. You WILL feel it when you visit. People see, hear, experience and report things here every day.

This is why The Crescent is famously known as "The Most Haunted Hotel in America." The Most Haunted Hotel in America website features much of the reported and researched experiences.

The Crescent Hotel and Spa, Eureka Springs, AR

Sitting atop a hill overlooking downtown, offering views in every direction, The Crescent — originally opened in 1886.

The Crescent also boasts fifteen acres of manicured gardens with hiking and biking trails that loop throughout. Take a ghost tour, explore the history of the building, and maybe even meet a ghost or two.

To get more information visit The Crescent Hotel and Spa website, and book a room to experience your own dose of creepy. LOCAL TIP: Theodora, the eternal hotel guest in room 419 is sure to make it a visit to remember. Stay in room 419 for (hopefully) a chilling experience, that is, if she wants to make her unearthly presence known - which is often the case.

4. Voices from Eureka's Silent City

The one hour lantern-guided cemetery walking tours are a fundraiser for the Eureka Springs Historial Museum and begin at 5:30 pm, and leave every 20 minutes. The last tour leaves at 8:30 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Tickets may be purchased at the Eureka Springs Historical Museum located at 95 S. Main Street, local Cornerstone Bank locations, or via our website (https://ESHmuseum.org/tickets). Tickets may also be purchased at the parking lot on the performance dates. There are no reserved tickets.

Well, there you have it, Halloweentown offers an unparalleled experience that blends our rich, haunted history with spine-tingling thrills. Whether you're joining the undead for the Zombie Crawl, witnessing mind-bending moments at The Intrigue Theater, braving the haunted halls of the Crescent Hotel or even wandering through our lantern-lit cemetery at night, our Eureka will present you with an October you'll never forget.

Cue the evil laugh and spooky music.🧡
