Listen for the Click

I’ve been judged for being a perfectionist in the past. In Dallas. In Boston. In Seattle.
And honestly, I believed them.

I’ve always believed that the way we see the world says just as much about who we are as it does about what we’re looking at. And somewhere along the winding, mural-painted streets of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, beneath the twisty iron balconies and hand-lettered gallery signs, I realized something profound:
I wasn’t chasing perfection. I was chasing harmony.

Now, if you've ever wandered the historic paths of Spring Street or stood quietly at the Crescent Hotel just as the fog rolls in like a whispered memory, you know what I mean. There’s a rhythm to this town. A palette. A soulful coherence. Something that clicks. Not because it’s flawless (ahem, Eureka would never pretend to be flawless) but because it feels just right.
Let me back up.

There was a time when I wore the label perfectionist like a scarlet letter. People said it like a warning. Like a flaw. Like a cold edge on a hot day. But as I leaned into my work and as I spent more time simply being here in Eureka Springs, I felt that inner resistance melt.
I wasn't drawn to straight lines or clinical precision. I was drawn to moments that sang in color. Vibrant color.
When I work, or blog, or hike, or spend time with Jeff and Kirby, I find myself truly in the moment waiting for that quiet click ... that signal, telling me that everything is in its right place, right now. Not perfect, but alive. That kind of harmony isn’t about rules or rigid standards. It’s about energy. Flow. Feeling.

It’s the mustard yellow of a vintage drum leaning against a robin’s egg blue wall near Basin Spring Park. It’s the way a local artisan arranges blown glass, not by formula, but by intuition. It’s how the creek underneath Mud Street Café reflects the late afternoon sun like it was designed just for that minute.
That click is joy.

It’s coherence that feels like coming home. It’s that sense of alignment where your insides say: Yes. This is it. You feel it deep in your chest, not in your logic, but in your bones.
Here in Eureka Springs, we celebrate those moments. We don’t chase sterile perfection. We chase art. We chase meaning. We chase the kind of beauty that makes you sigh and smile in the same breath. The kind of beauty that says this didn’t need to be flawless to matter.

So, to anyone who’s been told that their sensitivity, their attention to detail, or their hunger for “just right” is too much, I offer you this:
"Maybe what you’re seeking isn’t perfection at all. Maybe it’s , quite simply, harmony." -- JM Scurio
And maybe, just maybe, there’s a special place in the Ozarks where that hunger is not only welcome but truly understood. All year round.

Founded and named on July 4, 1879, The City of Eureka Springs, Arkansas has welcomed visitors for decades. Although our little mountain town is known today for our incredible architecture, arts/events, history, antiques & shopping, as well as the great outdoors, the original draw was simply - natural spring water. As the story is often told . . . early Native American tribes believed that the cold mountain spring water that flows through these hills could cure ailments of all kinds, and for this reason all that surrounded was deemed sacred. It was not long after the discovery of the healing water when health-seekers deemed these hills to be full of miracle cures and flocked to the area by the thousands during Victorian times, thus creating this stylish mountain retreat that you may still come to experience, even today. Here, we remain perfectly perched in these beautiful Ozarks surrounded by the grand, green curves of Mother Nature and we truly believe that this place is sacred. One visit is all it will take for you to feel that hard-to-explain, magical tug on your soul - connecting you to this corner of the world. Nowadays, it remains to be said that the rejuvenating spring waters that continue to flow below the downtown Historic District and the surrounding Historic Loop continue to emit these mystical, magical energies that tug at your soul, ground you and connect you.
This is Eureka! You found it!

Welcome to Eureka Springs!
We don’t do perfect. We do soul. And soul, my friend, is where the real joy lives.
"Stay vibrant, stay human, stay soulful and always listen for the click."❤️
