Visibility is Vital!

Posts like this are vitally important to the complex fabric of our lives.

Love, support, guidance, connection . . . just look around you . . . it's here . . . you're in Eureka Springs.

While strides towards acceptance, representation and change continue to struggle under this administration in America in 2026, members of the LGBTQIA+ community continue to face an uphill battle, which takes a toll on the majority of mental health in the community.

As we continue to battle for acceptance in society, Dr. Christine Moutier, the Chief Medical Officer at American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, says being accepted by those closest to us can make a life-changing impact, especially for the younger generation and those just coming to terms with their sexuality and coming out of the closet.

It’s on all of us to create an environment that is accepting, loving and affirming to all people, including people that are different from us, like those in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Asking and showing curiosity and caring is the combination that I think about. When I open up the caring conversation, I always start with, I’m not here to judge you, I’m really interested to know how you’re doing because I want to know how to care about you more. I want to support you better.

In Eureka Springs, Arkansas, all Eurekans, especially those outside of the LGBTQIA+ community speak up on our behalf. I've seen Eurekans, young, old, middle-aged, gay, straight, bi, poly, and countless others, defend, protect and guide the youth of our community, as well as visiting youth, and it is from this soulful human place of the heart that I was inspired to write this blog about the importance of visibility.

For us, June is visibility.

We exist.

We're here.

Acts of allyship can actually go a long way in creating a supportive environment and frankly, saving lives.

Creating a safe space goes far beyond just moments in the presence of queer community members. The actions allies can take even when not in the presence of queer individuals can be just as impactful.

If you or anyone you know is struggling with depression or anxiety, know that someone is always there. Additionally, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 988 LIFELINE

Eureka Springs continues to lead by example because

the world needs allies and champions to speak up on our behalf.

Yep, even here in lil'ol'Eureka Springs, Arkansas, our thriving, small, loving, community of about 2500 year-round residents, we celebrate the power of our diversity and how it contributes to our community! In addition to fun things happening in and around town in the month of June for Pride, and each April and October, we organize events, shows and activities specifically for Diversity Weekend. https://www.outineureka.org/
